What I've been up to recently
On projects, I covered visual design for mobile, web, and wearables with highly collaborative product teams.
In addition to visual design, began leading more user research and product strategy on projects. Got active in the local industry doing talks and workshops at events by the likes of General Assembly and the AGDA.
I'm always looking for opportunities to collaborate with interesting people and companies. Reach out and let's make great things together.
My role as a product designer
Product design is not a single job or task; it's a collaborative process with diverse disciplines and perspectives. On a product team, I share the ultimate goal of discovering, validating, and building solutions for challenges. As a product designer, here are some things I specifically contribute:
Discovering
Form follows function, only after function follows purpose. I help product teams start with empathy for the humans we're designing for, through the user research methods and skills I bring to the table. Great products start with understanding users them and their purpose; their "why". From there, we can uncover opportunities to add value to their experience.
Learning and Iterating
Good experiences get people through the door; great ones keep them there. Ideating ways to blow expectations out of the water will get people through the door, hanging out, and staying for dessert. Rapid prototyping to validate ideas is pivotal to this. I create prototypes to test anything from basic flows to microinteractions to help the team gain clarity and direction on concepts.
Building
This is my bread and butter. Well-crafted design solutions make clear pathways for users and consider how people navigate through a product and brand visually, mentally, and emotionally. I've designed interfaces, icon sets, and visual languages for various digital platforms from web to mobile to TV. Additionally, illustration is my side superpower and I have a background in packaging design...analog experience design ;).
